Frequently Asked Questions
At Zenit, we are committed to providing you with all the necessary information to help you make the most of our solutions. Here you will find answers to the most common questions about energy communities, collective self-consumption, and other services we offer.
1. Energy Communities and Collective Self-Consumption
Energy communities offer numerous benefits, including:
- Economic savings on energy bills.
- Energy independence.
- Environmental benefits by increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing emissions.
- Creation of local jobs and promotion of social cohesion.
- Greater control and responsibility over local energy needs.
Collective self-consumption allows multiple users to share the energy generated by a renewable energy installation, distributing the benefits and savings among all participants.
The benefits include reducing energy costs, optimizing the use of renewable energy, decreasing pollutant emissions, and increasing local energy autonomy.
Collective self-consumption is organized through energy sharing agreements, where the generated energy is distributed among the members according to their needs and historical consumption, optimizing the use of available resources.
Collective self-consumption requires a renewable energy generation installation, such as solar panels, and monitoring and management systems to efficiently distribute the generated energy among the community members. Consumers do not need to have solar panels installed at their homes; they can participate in collective self-consumption if they are within a 2 km radius of a renewable energy generation installation, thus benefiting from the generated energy.
The costs and benefits are shared according to the agreements established in the community, generally based on each member's energy consumption and their participation in energy generation.
The excess energy can be shared with other members of the community or sold to the electrical grid, generating additional income for the producers.
Yes, it is necessary to sign a contract that establishes the terms of participation, energy distribution, and the authorization of the self-consumption manager as the representative of the consumers before the distributor.
Collective self-consumption can significantly reduce your electricity bill by decreasing the amount of energy you need to purchase from the grid, taking advantage of the renewable energy generated within your community.
Producers generate renewable energy and can share the excess with consumers, who use the generated energy for their daily needs. Both roles collaborate to maximize the benefits of the community.
Collective self-consumption in Spain is regulated by a legal framework that includes Law 24/2013 of the Electricity Sector, Royal Decree 244/2019 which establishes the technical, administrative, and economic conditions for the self-consumption of electrical energy, and Law 7/2021 on climate change and energy transition. At the European level, the relevant directives are Directive EU 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources and Directive EU 2019/944 on common rules for the internal market for electricity.
2. Benefits of Choosing Zenit
The Zenit subscription model allows any citizen to consume renewable energy from a nearby generation point, up to a maximum of 2 km, as part of collective self-consumption. The subscription process is 100% digital through the Project Map on the Zenit website, where a personalized analysis of consumption and compatibility with the project is carried out. Subscribers pay a monthly fee for the self-consumption of the generated energy, obtaining a significant discount compared to conventional rates. Additionally, they have access to Zenit's energy management and monitoring platform, benefiting from advice and digital tools to ensure the consumption of renewable energy at a competitive price.
Zenit offers an interaction space for all the actors involved in energy community projects and collective self-consumption. Consumers are given the ability to find projects from all types of promoters. These range from public projects where the energy generated on a school roof is shared, to projects developed entirely by energy companies seeking to offer a service based on nearby network self-consumption. Ultimately, each and every project displayed on Zenit offers a more competitive model for consumers thanks to being based on a more efficient, local, renewable, and, above all, sustainable energy distribution.
3. Operation of the Zenit Platform
The Zenit platform facilitates the creation and management of energy communities through digital tools that optimize the distribution of the available renewable energy in the project, ensuring the maximum possible self-consumption and, as a result, maximizing the project's return on investment. Zenit offers a platform for consumers and self-consumption managers to participate in and manage projects in a fully digital manner.
Zenit offers several digital tools, including:
- A navigation map to locate and join energy communities and collective self-consumption projects.
- An intelligent power distribution algorithm and analysis of the potential benefits and savings for project members.
- A community manager for monitoring and managing the energy and members of the community.
4. Benefits of belonging to an Energy Community
The savings can vary significantly depending on the consumer's profile. For a standard profile, members of an energy community can save up to 25% on their energy bills. However, depending on consumption and participation, the savings can be as high as 100% or as low as 0%. The key lies in the optimization of renewable energy use and the specific consumption characteristics of each member.
Yes, energy communities significantly contribute to the reduction of pollutant gas emissions, promote the use of clean technologies, and encourage the transition to a sustainable energy model.
Excess energy can be shared with other members of the community or sold to the grid, thus optimizing the use of the generated energy and increasing the economic benefits for the producers.
5. Participation Process
Participating is simple. You just have to access our map on the Zenit platform, enter your address to locate a nearby community and follow the steps to request your participation completely online.
